Allen Trew Powell-343395-Infantry Gunner

At the age of 19, Allen Trew Powell was still a student when he enlisted in May 1918 with the 72nd (Queen’s) Battery, Canadian Field Artillery, Canadian Expeditionary Force. Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, on May 19, 1899, he was living with his father in Ottawa and attending Lisgar Collegiate Institute at the time of his enlistment.

Gunner Powell was deployed to Siberia as part of the Canadian Expeditionary Force (Siberia). He sailed from Vancouver aboard the Empress of Japan from October 11 to 26, 1918. While overseas, he was posted to an Ammunition Column—logistical units responsible for transporting artillery and small arms ammunition in support of brigade and divisional operations.

Following the Armistice, his unit made the long journey from Omsk to Vladivostok before returning to Canada aboard the Empress of Russia. He arrived in Vancouver in May 1919 and was demobilized on July 17, 1919. For his service, he was awarded the War Service Badge, Clasp “A”.

We thank him for his service.

We will remember them.
