Arthur Stone
Lieutenant Arthur Stone was born in Renfrew, Ontario, on March 3, 1923. He graduated from Osgoode Law School and became Senior Legislative Council for the Province of Ontario. He enlisted with the 48th Highlanders in Toronto. He completed officer training school and was also assigned as Platoon Commander, all at the age of 19! His skills as a bagpiper were appreciated.
As a CANLOAN Officer ( Canadian Officer on Loan to the British Army ) he participated in the Normandy D-Day invasion, going ashore with the British 6th Battalion, North Staffordshire Regiment. In the days after the invasion the regiment was advancing on Caen when Lt. Stone was wounded in the leg. He was shipped back to a hospital in England for treatment and recovery. Once well again he was redeployed with the Gordon Highlanders for their advance through Germany.
After the war he returned to Canada. In 1951 he married Cecily Bagshaw, and they had four children, and 9 grandchildren. His hobbies included music and art.
We thank him for his service.
We will remember them.
