Charles Arthur Deigan proudly served his country during the Second World War with the Royal Canadian Air Force, achieving the rank of Corporal. In recognition of his wartime service, he received the War Service Badge, General Service Class (No. 557513) in 1946. His dedication and skill contributed to Canada’s vital air operations during the war.
Following his military service, Charles built a meaningful life rooted in education, athletics, and community. He was a teacher at several schools, including Northview Heights Secondary School, Central High School of Commerce, and Tokoroa High School in New Zealand. Known for his passion for sport, he both participated in and coached athletics, and for many years held the Toronto Parks Department senior record for the hop, skip, and jump, first set in 1937.
Charles also worked for Toronto Hydro and authored educational texts such as Business Office Simulation System and Developing Office Typing Skills, reflecting his lifelong commitment to learning and mentorship.
He was a devoted husband to Brenda, and proud father to Russell, Glenda, and Eric (Melinda). He was also cherished by his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who continue to honour his legacy of integrity, curiosity, and quiet strength.
Charles Deigan lived a long life of service—both to his country and his community—and is fondly remembered by all who knew him.
