Charles E. Wright, Lt. Commander, Navy
Charles E. Wright was born in Prince Rupert, B. C., on March 6, 1912. He was raised in Toronto and attended Upper Canada College, graduating from grade 12. He worked at a bank in Toronto until he enlisted in the Navy. He was sent to Royal Roads in Victoria for officer training.
During the war he was the captain of HMCS Woodstock (K238), a corvette from August 1943 to October 1944, and HMCS Carlplace (K664) a river class frigate from December 1944 to September 1945. HMCS Woodstock served on convoy patrol in the North Atlantic, and has battle honours for the Atlantic 1942-1944, North Africa 1942-1943, Normandy 1944, and the English Channel 1944. HMCS Carlplace saw action in the Atlantic in 1945 also on convoy patrol.
He was discharged in 1945 and returned to Toronto. He married Louise Wright, and they had seven children. Tess Dempster is the eldest sibling. Charles worked at ES & A Robinson, a paper, printing, and packaging company (founded in 1844 in Bristol, England) at their Toronto offices in Leaside, until his retirement.
