Chesley F. Oldham, Private

Ches Oldham was born in Wainwright, Alberta, on October 15, 1919. When he was 2 years old his family moved back to Uxbridge Township, to the family’s home farm on the east side of the York Durham Line just north of Durham 1. He attended Siloam Public School through grade 8. He was working as a farmer and trucker before he enlisted in Canada’s Army in 1941. He was deployed to Italy and served there as a radio operator.

When he was demobilized after the war he returned to Uxbridge and went back to farming. He married Mabel Jean Tindall from Goodwood. Once they started their family they bought a farm on the west side of the 4th Concession of Scott Township just south of Zephyr Road. They raised three sons: Richard Larry, Stuart Nathan, and Bradley Craig.

Chesley was active in the Zephyr United Church and the Zephyr community. He served as Deputy Reeve of Scott Township, was elected Councillor of Scott Township in 1958 and was re-elected. He also was a member of the Ontario County Council, as well as the Masonic Hall as a Mason. He was a leader of the Boy Scouts and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He died November 9, 2002, and is buried in the Mount Albert Cemetery.

We thank him for his service.

We will remember them.
