Joseph Napoleon Henri Lagueux Corporal #35763

Corporal Joseph Napoleon Henri Lagueux was born on January 10, 1932, in Saint-Frederic,

Quebec. He was the eldest of 9 children, and his parents were Alcide and Agathe Lagueux. Before his enlistment Henri worked in nearby Charny, Quebec, as a grocery clerk.

Just after his 19th birthday, on January 18, 1951, Henri enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was an airman with Number 3 Fighter Wing, based at CFB Bagotville in Quebec’s Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region. On December 4, 1954, he married D. Sylvia Payton. 

On July 19, 1959, 3-Wing were transferred to Zweibruchen, Germany. Henri served there for four years until August 1963. He worked as a technician servicing vehicles (ME Tech/MSE Tech/Vehicle Tech). At the time, 3 Wing flew CF-188-Hornet fighter jets and CH-146-Griffon helicopters. He was awarded the Special Service Medal with NATO Bar (for service while stationed in Germany). He was discharged Jan. 17, 1971, after 20 years of service, and settled in Malton, Ontario.

Henri got a job with the City of Etobicoke as Fleet Safety Supervisor and worked there from 1971 until he retired in 1996. After he and Sylvia separated, Henri married June Diedrick on June 7, 1986, after which they moved to Simcoe, Ontario. Henri had 5 children with Sylvia - Deborah, Gaetane, George, Gregory, and Joan (died in infancy). He was stepfather to Chris, Andrew, and Jacquie.

Henri enjoyed fishing, curling, jigsaw puzzles, and playing cribbage and euchre. In retirement he enjoyed tinkering around the house, home improvements, yard work, gardening and tinkering with the car. Henri would always show up if someone called and mentioned they needed help with something. He loved his Labatt 50 Ale, and upon entering the Legion Hall he could be heard calling out “50! … one at a time please, I like them cold!”.

Henri died July 10, 2012, and is buried at Glendale Memorial Gardens, Etobicoke.
